SESSION ONE – The Prayer of the Agony: Jesus in Gethsemane

Christ’s passion begins on the Mount of Olives in the garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus came with his disciples to pray. Jesus is greatly distressed. His sweat becomes like drops of blood, and an angel comes to strengthen him (see Luke 22:43-44). As his final battle with the devil is about to begin, Jesus prays, “My Father, if it be possible, let this chalice pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39)."
